The Texas Drag Legacy Archive

About the Archive

The Texas Drag Legacy Archive is a showcase of the history, richness, glamour, and all things synonymous with Texas drag. The Mahogany Project, in partnership with the ACLU of Texas, is leading a collaboration that highlights entertainers throughout Texas in a two- to three-week exhibition immortalizing the legacy of our drag community, past, present, and future.

The archive will highlight Texas drag using fashion, photography, videography, design, historical artifacts, and storytelling in the Spring of 2027 in Houston, Texas.

The Texas Drag Legacy Archive is another opportunity to address our current drag ban and showcase drag as one of the richest art forms in Texas's history.

Uplift

the creativity, design, and fashion of drag entertainment.

Honor

the pioneers within our community who are no longer with us.

Educate

the broader community and youth about entertainers who have advanced their careers beyond nightclubs, highlighting the connection between philanthropy and drag entertainers.

How to Submit to the Archive

Participation in the inaugural exhibition is your opportunity to leave a lasting mark on history and the broader LGBTQIA+ community as another milestone within your drag career while using drag to inspire the future through visibility and innovating fashion, social, and political movements. But most importantly, it tells the story of our people, our community, and the spaces where we gather(ed).

Help us archive, highlight, and preserve the narratives of community in the Texas Drag Legacy Archive exhibition in the Spring of 2027.

All forms of drag are valid and will be considered as part of this exhibition. Special consideration will be given to submissions by Black and transgender individuals, full-time entertainers, entertainers with more than 10 years of experience, those navigating disability, submissions with a call to action, political or social messages, and submissions highlighting entertainers who are deceased.

Any item submitted to this archive shall be voluntary and should be available from February to mid-June.

All fields in this submission form are required. Please allow 45 to 60 minutes to complete this application.
